In
1995 , Norm (guitars) and Bones (vox) formed Vancouver based LUNCHBUCKET.
After recruiting Russ (lead guitar) and Joel (bass) later that year....
Much jamming commenced.... With no drummer, LUNCHBUCKET recorded
their first demo " Baked Not Fried " , using a drum machine. This
demo was done live off the floor. The 8-song compilation included
the songs O.J. Did It , Rise , and Billy B. Basin , with copies
having made journys east of the Rockies as well as local circulation
here in Vancouver. It was engineered and recorded by Chad Elliott
@ Rubber Room in Vancouver, B.C.
In
early spring '96 , Steve Black (Burlap Boys, Smoked Oysters) Joined
as the official drummer for LUNCHBUCKET. After more jamming
commenced, LUNCHBUCKET was ready to leave their sweaty jam
room to finally kick some serious ass...
In
the first daze of '97, LUNCHBUCKET had a rough go of it.
After letting Steve go , they decided to scrap the full length recording
project and start fresh. The guitarist Russ was diagnosed with cancer
and lost his leg just below the left knee. WHile Russ was recuperating
from the ordeal, LUNCHBUCKET tried out drummers to no avail...
Then an idea was born... Bones, the vocalist, was former drummer
of Maniacl Rage , Dementia. He decided to take on the challenge
of both vocals and drums. When Russ returned from the hospital,
LUNCHBUCKET had a good start on having their set on track.
Much rejoicing and jamming commenced...
By
April '97 , LUNCHBUCKET was gigging again!!! Many old fans
returned to be surprised by a tight , energetic LUNCHBUCKET
. In July '97 Russ was once again diagnosed with cancer in the same
leg. This time it's personal ! LUNCHBUCKET decided to raise
funds and spread the word. We are going to record a killer CD and
get shirts made and gig , gig , gig.... Vengeance is ours.... The
rest of '97 was again rough... Russ was losing his battle slowly
but surely. LUNCHBUCKET did shows and raised money to record.
Shirts were made as well as shorts , which were gone quiker than
could be made ! The recording process began in early '98... This
time it was recorded and engineered by Brant Rattray of Ratcave
Studios. It was also live of off the floor , but overdubs were used
to give it a fuller , warmer sound. Russ was very sick at this time
and things went slow.
March
'98... The demo was being mastered , the covers were being made
, and Russ was on his deathbed. There was much sadness....
March
29 , '98... Russ dies at home with the master copy in his hands...
The duplicates were in a box beside him , the covers , unfortunately
were not done untill the next day. These tapes were given out at
the funeral, with over 400 going in less than 10 minutes... There
were many friends and musicians there to pay their last respects
to a good friend and a wicked guitarist..
Now
came the task of finding someone who could replace Russ. Along came
ART... The art of axecution he fit in quite well. During this time
, the stress of the whole thing began to show....Inner turmoil broke
out and in the end , Joel quit as bassist. Determined to keep the
dream alive , Bones and Norm decided to continue...
Then
came Bret.... the pimp. Originally , he tried out for bass and got
the job. Once again much jamming comenced and things began to look
up. After a short time and a couple of small shows , Art quit to
go on and join Charlie Drown... Sad to see him go , but still determined.....LUNCHBUCKET
changed yet again. Pimp took over lead guitar and brought in old-school
punk bassist Gary. This was fine for a while and some shows were
played , some fun was had , but Gary was not cut out for LUNCHBUCKET
material. He was let go....
CONFUSED?
So were we !!
So
were we !! So... Bones was drumming and singing... Norm rattled
off the rythms , Pimp was doing leads.... we needed a bassist badly.
Ads
were placed , people were asked , but nothing was happening....then
the mists parted and out came Martin ( Smoked Oysters, Grudge,Biophobe)!
Martin
fit in right away... he was Known well by all members and he picked
up fast. His style complimented the band and once again things began
to smooth out... Progress was finally being made at a pace that
was acceptable !
So
now with all we've been through , we are still here , we are ready
to take to the stage and show you what we are made of....
LUNCHBUCKET
belives in having fun and playing hard. We invite you to check us
out ....... We'd love to hear your comments
